After swanning around at the District 9 premiere, Al took the King James Jhb crew out for a bit of a team build in Jhb. After a relatively civilized diner start to the night, the wheels fell off at a very dodgy bar called Roseboys, or “The Dyke” bar as Greg put it - rich coming from him. Charne and Greg led by example and even managed to lower the tone of the bar, which was quite the accomplishment. Our Joburg staff do us proud.
At this point things are still civil. Then some start getting a little rough around the edges.
Next thing you know, it's Dancing-On-The-Table-o'clock.
After all that dancing, a girl needs to sit down. On somebody's face.
Good times. PS. Apparently there's a boob shot of Charne - anyone care to submit it?
We are all very proud of our ATL Group Head Paige Nick, who was offered a publishing deal by Penguin yesterday for her first book, entitled A Million Miles From Normal. Paige started writing the book after doing a short course in literature last year, and then she found an agent, and the rest is history (or will be soon). We are so proud of you Paige, we know its been an ambition of yours for ages and you've worked hard to make it happen. We look forward to standing in line to have our copies signed at your book launch.
Well done to Copywriter Paige Nick and Art Director Karin Barry on producing the work for the latest Eagles Campaign. Shamelessly copied from the blurb on 10and5:
"Together with brave client, Mike Vale at Independent Newspapers,
King James have created a series of posters, print ads and magazine ads
as well as an engaging and unique website created with their digital
partner Mnemonic, to tell people in the industry about this year’s
The theme for this year’s awards is based on a human truth that’s
just about as old as creativity itself. Since the beginning of time
creatives have gone to great lengths to crack that stonker of an idea.
From enduring sleepless nights, to sweating bullets, inhaling vodka or
selling their souls to the devil. Then when they finally crack it, the
hard work has only just begun. These days budgets are smaller, time is
shorter, the logo will always need to be bigger and every year The
Eagles judges are tougher. Hey, nobody said it was easy."

Because not everyone 'just gets design', today Jenny from RSVP carefully took us through the subtleties in the new CI, carefully explaining spot UVs and foils and glosses. Riveting stuff. Now to spend the next week or so figuring out how to apply it to our signatures...
Our new Corporate Identity has been around for a while, but since we held an official 'burning of all things old CI' in James's office, we thought we'd post a few shots of our new stationery. Let us know what you think. We really like it. Obviously. It was designed by Rikus Ferriera with Jenny Ehlers as CD from RSVP.
While Al's puppy Garp is a regular site gallumphing around King James, Jackpot only comes in on very special occasions because he is a very special cat. Jenny's Russian Blue kitten is gracing us with his very dignified presence today. Go give him a stroke - if he'll let you - in Jenny's office. He's in his usual spot under the cupboard.
Some of you may know that Mark Stead likes to ride a bike. Bet not all of you know that also likes wearing the tight clothes you need to ride a bike. Here's Mark kicking it after a 30km race on Saturday. He won a gold medal and a bottle of wine. Go Mark. You look HOT.
You can read all about it in this very complimentary post on social media expert Chris Rawlinson's site. Thanks Chris - we appreciate the mention :) Click here to check out the Steri blog and what we've been up to.
We at KingJames are fortunate enough to have our flower arrangements done by Chris Koch of St Christopher's Studios. We say fortunate because with Chris's flowers it's never a dull moment. Our latest reception arrangement sports a whole lot of floating, colourful speckled eggs, some cut perspex and some speared ornamental oranges. And some flowers. Give Chris a call on 083 270 3021 for some seriously interesting flowers. Just wait til you see what he does with a bathroom arrangement.
